Walton club Teacher workshop

9 September 2016

Recently, Trinity Walton Club was delighted to welcome 7 teachers of Trinity Walton Club students to Trinity College Dublin for a day long workshop. Trinity Walton Club is a STEM (physics, technology, engineering and maths) club, for second level students to connect with likeminded students and mentors, and further enhance their STEM knowledge and skills. The programme is named after Ernest Walton, and the students are called Alphas after the particles that were critical to his Nobel Prize winning experiments.

This was Trinity Walton Club’s first teacher workshop and it provided a unique opportunity for teachers of Alphas to learn more about the Club’s philosophy and practices, and gather their insights. Throughout the day, the teachers also unravelled the inner workings of the Club, reviewed the maths and physics curricula, and brain-stormed future engagement opportunities back in the classroom and schools.

The day was a great success, with lots collaborative avenues to explore. This event was supported by the IOPI grant scheme and future similar events will be hosted for interested teachers in the future. To register your interest, please contact waltonclub@tcd.ie.
