Dublin teacher wins IOP Award

Physics teacher, Máire Duffy of Clonkeen College, Blackrock, Co Dublin was awarded an Institute of Physics Teacher Award at a recent ceremony in London. The event is organised to celebrate the success of scientists, teachers and leaders of high-tech businesses.

The citation for Máire’s award noted that she is a highly committed and dedicated professional who has an excellent relationship with her students. As a mentor to younger colleagues and an advocate for continuing professional development of physics teachers she is confident and generous in sharing her experiences and resources. As well as being the school's public relations officer and serving on its Advisory Board of Studies, she has facilitated many workshops with the Professional Development Service for Teachers to support local physics and science teachers, who have noted her friendly, energetic style. She is always willing to try out new strategies to convey physics concepts and she has created a fantastic reputation for physics in her school.
