Cork teacher wins IOP award

Physics teacher Frank Cotter picked up an Institute of Physics Teacher Award at a recent ceremony in London.

Frank was presented with his award from Prof. Roy Sambles, IOP President. The event is organised to celebrate the success of scientists, teachers and leaders of high-tech businesses.

Frank, of the Christian Brothers College, Sydney Hill, Cork has been recognised as an inspirational teacher who creates remarkable enthusiasm and engagement among his students. His award citation notes that he has a particular talent for blending the practical with the theoretical. He embraces innovative teaching methodologies and is a keen supporter and mentor of fellow staff. As a result of his tireless enthusiasm and skill, there is an exceptional uptake of the subject at advanced level and in three recent years, students from his classes obtained the highest marks in Leaving Certificate physics across Ireland. Frank is also very committed to extracurricular activities, and has helped students to remarkable success in local and national competitions, as well as helping students in the wider community.
