14 July 2015

The newly formed NI Science Festival was recently awarded Family Event of the Year 2015 in the annual Ni4Kids Awards in Belfast City Hall. Parents voted the inaugural Science Festival held in February as the most popular, beating stiff competition from some long-running festivals and events.

Ni4Kids is a popular family newspaper delivered free throughout Northern Ireland with a monthly distribution of nearly 60,000. IOP Ireland is closely involved in the Science Festival, which broke all records in its inaugural year. Over 50,000 attended 120 events in 11 days, making it one of the top science festivals in Ireland and Europe – it was co-founded by the IOPI Education and Promotions Advisor, Liz Conlon. The Festival featured seven high profile physics events supported by IOP Ireland.

Families told Ni4Kids that they "couldn’t wait to go back next year", calling the event "a really rewarding and innovative experience".

The second Festival will take place from 18th to 28th February 2016 – for the latest updates go to www.facebook.com/niscifest.
