Top leaving certificate physics

The Institute of Physics in Ireland awarded its silver medal to two students who came first in the Physics Leaving Certificate 2012 and a student who came first in the N. Ireland Physics A-Level exam.

At Leaving Certificate level the winners were Brian Traynor, Virginia College, Virginia, Co. Cavan, and Eoin Coleman of St.  Attracta's Community School, Tubbercurry, Sligo.

In Northern Ireland the top A-Level student in physics was Sana Ashraf of Strathearn College, Belfast. Sana is currently studying medicine at Queen’s University Belfast, while Brian is studying nanoscience  at Trinity College Dublin. Eoin has also been accepted for medicine but is taking a year out to travel and is currently working in a ski resort. His medal was accepted on his behalf by his mother.

The winners were presented with silver medals by IOP Ireland Chair, Dr Kevin McGuigan at a ceremony on 11 December in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
